The Blues have seen Real come calling in the last two summers, taking Thibaut Courtois in 2018 before luring Eden Hazard to Spain earlier this summer.
But according to The Athletic, the Spanish giants are ready to return to Chelsea in a bid to acquire the energetic French midfielder at the end of the season.
Madrid have long identified Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba as their preferred option in the middle but that deal appears to be complicated to pull off, despite the player’s willingness to depart Old Trafford.
Pogba’s compatriot Kante is a different type of player but is universally recognized as one of the finest players in his position in the world.
It spoke volumes that Kante was included in the 55-man FIFPRO World XI shortlist that was published last week. He was the only Chelsea player to be included.
Earlier this summer, the softly-spoken Kante admitted that he was flattered to have Europe’s top clubs interested in signing him.
He said: ‘It’s rewarding to be wanted by big clubs, when coaches want you in their project it’s nice. But I’m happy with my choices and feel good at Chelsea. I’m planning for the next season at Chelsea.’
