Gareth Bale has been dropped for Real Madrid’s clash with Villarreal on Sunday night casting further doubt on his future under Zinedine Zidane.
Despite injury ruling out striker Karim Benzema Bale has been snubbed as his struggles to assert himself under Zidane continue.
The Welshman is expected to leave the club in the summer as part of a major overhaul at the club after a disappointing season where they sit third in La Liga and were dumped out of the Champions League in the last-16.
Missing Sunday’s game has left Bale ‘very sad’ and in a state of ‘disillusionment’ according to Spanish newspaper .
Zidane refused to be drawn on Bale’s future when questioned on Saturday.
‘I am the coach and I have to make a squad and take decisions,’ the Frenchman said.
‘[Bale] just has to train and play. I can’t speak about individual players.
‘They know where they stand and the responsibilities they have.I hope for the best from each of the players, that’s why we train each week.’
Real are destined to finish third in the league behind bitter foes Barcelona and city rivals Atletico Madrid.
Los Blancos have three fixtures remaining, starting with Sunday’s visit of Villarreal.
