Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone admits there are only a couple of players at the club who are in the “untouchable” bracket.
The Spanish giants are having to deal with a series of rumors once again this summer regarding departures from the club, with Mario Mandzukic at the forefront of speculation as the Manchester United and Juventus have both been strongly linked with a move for the Croatian striker.
Another Atleti player in the spotlight is former Real Sociedad forward and France international Antoine Griezmann, who has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Chelsea. Greiezmann was La Liga’s third-highest goalscorer last season with 22 goals to his name.
The Frenchman made the move to the Vicente Calderon last summer, and he had a magnificent opening campaign under Simeone, but despite that the Argentine does not see the forward as “untouchable”.
“Mandzukic? Who goes and who stays is not up to me. The club will decide what is best. We are happy with Mandzukic, he had a very competitive campaign,” said Simeone.
“Of course, at Atletico there are few players who can be considered untouchable: Koke, Godin and that’s about it, I’d say.”
Whilst Atletico finished off last season without any trophies, after winning La Liga the year prior, and Griezmann’s performances have attracted attention from Stamford Bridge, as per the Express.
Atletico finished third in La Liga, and whilst that was a slight disappointment in the eyes of Simeone and his men, particularly after such a wonderful 2013/14 season, many have tipped them to challenge Barca and city rivals Real once again next year.
