La Liga side Villarreal have sacked manager Luis Garcia just 49 days after he was appointed – and replaced him with the man they sacked before appointing him.
Javi Calleja will return as manager having left the role in December.
Luis Garcia was brought in to the Estadio Ceramica during December having coached Chinese Super League club Beijing Renhe having previously been at the helm of Elche, Levante and Getafe.
Villarreal were dumped out of the Copa del Rey by Espanyol and lost 3-0 at Valencia on Saturday, which turned out to be Garcia Plaza’s last match at the helm.
The Coach’s only victory in charge was a triumph at home to Spartak Moscow in the Europa League group stage, on 13 December.
Garcia, after hearing the news about his sacking, said:
“I believe the team will survive. I truly do because they have the ability to do so.
“From six [Liga] games, I’m only unhappy with the last one, but we lacked a result from which we could push on.
“I’m very grateful and wish Villarreal all the best.”
