New Barcelona player Luis Suárez said in a statement to Liverpoolfc.com that to “play and live in Spain” was a “lifelong dream and ambition” and that he felt the timing was now “right”. He said though that he and his family would “always be Liverpool supporters”.
Suárez said he was leaving Liverpool “with a heavy heart” for a “new life and new challenges in Spain”. And affirmed that he and his family had “fallen in love with this club and with the city”.
He wished Liverpool’s coach, Brendan Rogers, and the team “well for the future”, saying “the club is in great hands and I’m sure will be successful again next season”.
Suárez also said he was “very proud to have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League”, before signing off with a thank you:
“Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
