Samuel Eto'o says the claims made against him by Pep were false

When Barcelona traded Samuel Eto’o to Inter Milan in exchange for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, I was stunned as to why Barca would make such a trade. Although Ibra was definitely a player on the rise, Samue Eto’o, in my opinion, was far more dangerous than the Swedish striker.

Pep Guardiola viewed the Cameroon striker as a problem child for the club and said he was a negative presence in the locker room. However, Eto’o went on to deny these claims in a statement made to L’Equipe Mag.

“When Guardiola wanted me out, Messi went to him and said, ‘Let whoever you want go, but not Samuel’. All my coaches will tell you that I am a great professional. I’ve not always been a role model in terms of discipline, but I have always been rigorous and professional. I’ve played and I’ve been successful with Ronaldinho, with Messi – with many great players – and if I couldn’t stand playing with other great players, why would I have helped bring my friend Thierry Henry to Barcelona? I don’t fear for my place – on the contrary, I work for the success of the team. When Ronaldinho arrived at Barcelona, they did not win anything. After my arrival, we won it all.”

Think Guardiola was at fault for the departure of Samuel Eto’o? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Eto’o is the best striker in the world his movement with and out the ball is some thing special.
I thing Pep Guardiola do not like his skin color.
Soccer fans think about barcelona history and some of the black players the had.
Pep will never again win the champion league with out Eto’o and this may be his last year with barcelona

Is Pep recist? He was in a hurry to offload Ronaldinyo (who still performs well), Eto’o (who still performs well), Toure (who still performs), Thiery, you name them. And, hey, they are all black.

The race issue seems to arise again and again with regards to barcelona and their dealings/treatment of top players of color on their team:1- Egregious error of trading $$$ + Eto’o for Ibra is as bad as Real jettisoning Schneider and Robben. 2- Selecting Busquets over Yaya Toure was poor a judgment call (especially in first leg vs Inter) Was it nepotism perhaps? Or was there a need to promote Busquets because the national team needed him. Or is it the expression of a preference for promoting Masia graduates (which in and of itself imposes a form of defacto descrimination). It must be said that Guardiola does tend to err on the side of offense and is more likely to make a poor defensive call than an offensive one. Then you have the murky saga with Henry: an athelete in serious decline or an unmotivated athelete due to poor treatment from the club. As die hard barca fan (of color) for 15 years i must say that it is a worrying trend. But then again the expulsion of Ibra seems to contradict that theory. Maybe there is a hard line of discipline and enforced conformity that is employed at the Camp Nou that certain personalities find it difficult to cope with. Or maybe those peronalities are viewed in a more harsh light when the offender is non-catalan, non-spanish, non-masia product. It’s hard to call either way. But the Eto’o trade was certainly an alarm raising action, and this situation bears further scrutiny.
