Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has dealt the club a blow today, after it was reported he met with Louis van Gaal and told the Dutchman he is eager to join Real Madrid this summer, as per Sport Mediaset.
The 24-year-old Spain international has been heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, but it’s a deal which has been wrangling on for some time now with no breakthrough in discussions yet.
De Gea returned to the club’s training base at Carrington on Monday with the rest of the Manchester United squad, as the Red Devils began their pre-season preparations.
The Real Madrid target seemed in high spirits, but his future is still up in the air and the Mirror today reported that De Gea was told on Monday by Van Gaal to focus on his future in the North West, with the club set to jet out to America next week.
However, Sport Mediaset report that the meeting between the pair did not go that way and De Gea reportedly told the Dutch coach:
“I want to play at Real Madrid.”
De Gea has just one year left on his contract at Old Trafford after moving to the Red Devils back in 2011 from Atletico Madrid, but the Premier League side are asking Real to cough up €50 million if they want the goalkeeper this summer, as per the Italian report.
