Real Madrid are reportedly willing to offer Luka Modric to Napoli as part of the deal to bring Kalidou Koulibaly to the Bernabeu.
The Senegalese centre half is one of the most in-demand defenders in world football and is said to have been on the wanted list for both Madrid and Barcelona for some time as he continues to impress both at Napoli and for his national side Senegal.
The 28-year-old is now widely regarded as one of the finest defenders in world football with his form widely heralded as being among the best at Europe’s top level.
And La Liga giants Madrid are looking to win the race by proposing 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Modric to the Serie A side as well as €50 million, according to El Desmarque.
The 28-year-old has reportedly been valued at around €120m by the Italian side but the prospect of Modric moving to them is appealing to Napoli.
Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis has said before that he wouldn’t sell for anything less than €100 million.
“I loved Koulibaly the man so I refused €105m, but a time will come when I’ll have to sell him,” Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis recently told Sky Italia.
“Whoever says we didn’t improve our defence is wrong.”
The 34-year-old Modric has made just 14 appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s side this season but has only started half of those matches.
