Real Madrid Want Mauricio Pochettino To Be Their Next Manager

Real Madrid ‘will make another effort to hire Mauricio Pochettino’ if Julen Lopetegui’s short reign in charge at the Bernabeu comes to an end soon.

The European champions wanted the Tottenham boss to replace Zinedine Zidane back in the summer but Pochettino signed a new five-year deal with Spurs worth £8.5million per year.

But, according to media report in the UK, eal’s hierarchy remain keen on Pochettino and are double-checking whether there is any chance of getting him.

Real hope Spurs’ likely early exit from the Champions League – in the wake of their 2-2 draw at PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday – could persuade Pochettino to move.

If not, Real are likely to move for former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who remains the favourite to replace Lopetegui, and they are prepared to pay £40m to get him.

Though Conte’s brother and agent Daniele said there has been ‘no contact’ from Real, he would be a proven figure to take one of the toughest jobs in world football.

Daniele Conte said: ‘Antonio is on holiday, he has not received any calls from Real Madrid. Yes, Real is a great team but there has been no contact.’

Lopetegui will be under severe pressure if Real lose this Sunday’s Clasico with Barcelona following a poor start to the season.

They currently sit seventh in La Liga – four points behind Barcelona – having lost three of their opening nine matches.

Their midweek 2-1 win over Czech side Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League was their first success in five games.
