Real Madrid Take Bayern Apart In Munich Thrashing

ronaldoReal Madrid ripped Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich side apart in Munich on Wednesday winning 4-0 to complete a 5-0 aggregate victory.

Holding a 1-0 lead from the first leg, a first-half brace from Sergio Ramos and two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, which took his season’s UEFA Champions League tally to a record 16, handed Real a comfortable win that takes them to the Estadio da Luz to face either Chelsea and former manager Jose Mourinho or bitter city rivals Atletico Madrid on 24 May.

Bayern entered the game knowing that they needed two goals at least to win, but whatever game plan Guardiola had drawn you went out in window in the opening 20 minutes.

First Bayern’s zonal marking allow Sergo Ramos a free run at at Luka Modric corner and the Spanish international headed powerfully home.

Four minutes later it was 2-0 as Bayern fell asleep at another free kick. This time Di Maria’s delivery was flicked on by Pepe for Ramos to head home.

Bayern now needed three goals to win the tie and as they pushed men forward, Carlo Ancelotti’s side hit them with a perfect counter-attack. Di Maria spread the ball right to Benzema, who freed Bale and the Welshman and Ronaldo were two-on-one with Jerome Boateng. Bale slipped the ball across to the Portuguese and he calmly slotted below Neuer.

In a damage control move Guardiola removed a striker, Mandzukic, at half-time and brought on a defensive midfielder Javi Martinez. The move, akin to waving the white flag, signaled a subdued second half, with Ronaldo completing the rout in the final minute with a low free-kick from 18 yards as Real completely outclassed the Bundesliga champions.
