One word can only describe the hosting decisions for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup, Shocking.
With the United States having said to be the front-runners to host the 2022 World Cup, it was an absolute shock when FIFA president Sepp Blatter announced Qatar as the host. An Arab nation who has never qualified for World Cup competition, Qatar now will be hosting the prestigious event.
It was estimated that only 1.7 million people reside in Qatar which are now considered the smallest nation to host a World Cup. Many American fans and even Non-America fans are highly upset with the decision as they not feel disappointed that they weren’t chosen but also because they feel that Qatar shouldn’t even have been seriously considered. Although I do give credit to Qatar for a very persuasive presentation, I also have to agree that letting them host a World Cup would only cause many problems.
Let’s look at some of the facts of Qatar for instance:
- Although the Qatar Census Estimate states that they have a population of just under 1.7 Million, the CIA World Fact Book has it listed at a littler over 840,000.
- Eight hours ahead of the United States, the time difference can definitely have an impact on the viewers in America.
- Alcohol can not be displayed in public, only one alcohol distribution company in Qatar.
However, despite some of these facts (Plus many more), I have to give credit to Qatar for their very unique approach at building new stadiums. Check the video link here – “Qatar’s 5 new Stadium outlooks” to see their concepts of 5 new stadiums and how they will look.
