The arrival of Andre Gomes from Valencia has caused quite a bottleneck in the Barcelona midfield that will surely see one, if not two, of the midfields leaving the Camp Nou this summer.
Barca play a traditional three-man midfield that is centered by Sergio Busquets. Last season Luis Enrique usually played Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta in front of Busqests.
But this summer Barca have brought in Gomes, Denis Suarez and Sergi Robert to provide competition for Rakitic and Iniesta. Add in Rafinha, who missed most of last season through injury, and Arda Turan who struggled in his first season at the Camp Nou and Luis Enrique is looking at a very crowded midfield. One that is one or two players too many.
So who could be expected to leave this summer as Barcelona try and recoup some of the money they have spent this summer?
The most obvious departure has to be the out-of-favour Turan, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Chelsea, and Juventus. Turan moved to Barcelona from Atletico Madrid last summer for €34 million, plus €7 million in variables. Due to the transfer ban that Barca were under, Turan was forced to miss the first five months of the season, and never seemed to settle well for the eventual champions.
His poor form both for club and country has lowered the valuation of the Turkish international, but Barcelona should be able to get between€25-28 million for the 29-year-old.
Rakitic has also admitted that his time at the Camp Nou could be drawing to an end with the new arrivals and he has also been linked with a move to Juventus, who should be able to afford his €50 million price tag after selling Paul Pogba to Manchester United for a world record €120 million.
