For the second time in seven months, Lionel Messi is looking to redo his contract with Barcelona.
Catalan Newspaper ‘El 9 Esportiu’ published an opinión piece on Saturday by journalist Jordi Basté, which reported that Jorge Messi has arrived in the Catalan capital with a uinique proposal: to meet this week with club president Sandro Rosell in order to discuss a new contract for his son.
According to the report, Messi and his father both believe that Neymar has become the highest paid player in the squad, something they are not willing to accept quietly. They want Leo, the team’s star on and off the pitch, to also be the highest earner, and are seeking an increase in his wages.
After spotting the story, ‘El Mundo Deportivo’ got in touch with Messi’s family, who denied the information.
If a new deal is agreed, it will be Messi’s second contract renewal in less than seven months, following the extension agreed in February of this year, when Messi signed on at the Camp Nou until 2018, increasing his salary considerably but maintaining his buy-out clause at 250 million euros.
