Malaga And Sevilla Get Opening Day Wins

Aged 16 years and 98 days, Málaga forward Fabrice Olinga became the youngest scorer in Liga history as his late goal earned the Champions League play-off contenders a 1-0 victory at promoted RCelta de Vigo.

The second-half substitute made an immediate impact, first hitting the woodwork with a stinging effort and then bundling the ball in off his thigh for an 84th-minute winner, thereby eclipsing Iker Muniain’s 2009 record by 191 days. The hosts – back in the top flight after a five-year hiatus – came closest to restoring parity when Enrique De Lucas struck a post in added time.

Meanwhile, Sevilla opened their La Liga season with a deserved win in an occasionally scrappy game at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Goals by Federico Fazio and Alvaro Negredo, the latter from a disputed penalty, within five first-half minutes ultimately proved enough for the hosts.

Although Alexis halved the deficit five minutes after the break, it failed to prevent his side slipping to a 2-1 defeat.
