Maicon’s Agent: Move to Madrid Imminent

Just days after Maicon displayed his superb talnet for the world to see in Brazil’s 2-1 victory over North Korea, the star defender is apparently on the verge of switching club teams.

The world-class right-back had an amazing campaign under Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan squad. Together the two captured the Italian Serie A title and the Champions League crown. Maicon is known to be an avid fan of Mourinho and upon his departure, expressed great desire to reunite with him at some point in his career.

But so soon? Just a month removed from Mourinho joining Real Madrid, he has his sights focused on luring Maicon to Spain’s capital. All of this comes after Maicon pledged his allegiance to Inter and vowed to stay with the club until his contract expired.

Chalk another one up for the self-proclaimed “special one” in Jose Mourinho. Maicon’s agent, Antonio Caliendo has claimed that Maicon “has more hunger to win at Real, than he does at Inter.”

Inter’s asking price for the star Brazilian is a hefty €35 million, with Real Madrid apparently offering in the neighborhood of €25 million. Caliendo however feels a deal will certainly get done. “Inter President Massimo Moratti and Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez are such good friends that I’m sure a decision will be reached,” expressed Caliendo.

Just days after Maicon apparently was to stay with the reigning Italian champions, it appears as if Inter are now resigned to losing their best player. The club has notified incoming coach Rafael Benitez that he will be without the services of the Brazilian, and they are working on a short list to replace him. One name on that list could be current Liverpool defender, and English national team member, Glen Johnson.

The ever-changing ways of football’s crazy season are certainly upon us, and it is no surprise the show-stopping Jose Mourinho is in the center of it all yet again.

Maicon’s imminent departure will be tough to replace for Inter, and will make their quest for their fourth straight Scudetto much more difficult.
