Luis Enrique assured that Barcelona’s win over Elche augurs well, in light of the fact that some of the less regular players featured in the line-up.
“It gives us great hope for the future, for this squad and for what we can become in the near future”, said the Barça manager, before adding that the win “was not easy”, despite the 6-0 scoreline.
The manager admitted that Barcelona had a tough time opening the scoring, although he described this as
“something normal, because we can’t start the game 3-0 up”. “Once we scored the first goal, we took control of the match more, but these games are always tough and I’m happy with the attitude of the team”, said Enrique.
The ‘Azulgranas’ coach complained about the poor condition of the pitch, something which he claims is a regular occurrence when Barcelona are playing away from home. He placed no special emphasis on Neymar’s performance – the Brazilian netted a brace -, saying that he played “like the rest of the team, at a very high level”.
Enrique also insisted that it is to be expected for his side to find it difficult to break down Elche in the opening minutes, arguing that “our opponents are well organised at the back in the opening minutes and they sit back close to their area”
