Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has lost faith in manager Rafa Benitez, according to Spanish broadcaster Manolo Lama.
Los Blancos have had a mixed start to the season, enduring three defeats in La Liga already this season leaving them two points behind leaders Barcelona.
A 4-0 loss to the Catalan giants in November put Benitez under almost immediate pressure and there have been questions asked about Madrid’s style of play under the Spaniard.
Manolo claims that the manager has lost the Madrid dressing room, seemingly a major factor in Jose Mourinho’s dismissal from the club, as reported by the Telegraph.
Furthermore, according to the Daily Mail, the Spanish tactician has failed to keep major stars happy and they are reporting that Mourinho is being considered as a replacement, despite the acrimony with which he left the club in 2013.
Madrid have, though, closed the gap on Barcelona at the top of the table with a thumping 10-2 win over Rayo Vallecano last weekend and finished top of their Champions League group ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.
Los Blancos face Roma in the round of 16 in February, before which Benitez must arrest the side’s questionable league form, which has seen them lose three of their last six.
Next up for the 55-year-old is a visit from 14th placed Real Sociedad on December 30th. A Madrid win is expected and it seems unlikely that Perez will tolerate many more disappointing results.
