Guardiola Denies Claims That He Was Responsible For Toure's Departure

This is not the first time Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola is defending himself against claims of forcing out players he dislikes. After taking over from Frank Rijkaard in 2008,  Guardiola made it very clear that Ronaldinho, Eto’o and Deco would no longer be part of his plans as coach of the Catalans.

Both Dinho and Deco left the club in the summer and Eto’o followed suit a year later. Now, Guardiola finds himself in a very tight spot after claims emerged that he was responsible for Yaya Toure’s departure.

There is no doubt that Guardiola is doing a fantastic job in Barcelona and anyone who does not acknowledge that is simply ignorant, however, what many people are eager to know is how long Barcelona can keep winning under Guardiola.

According to Yaya Toure, he left Barcelona due to the poor relationship between him and Guardiola.  Toure even went far as saying that Guardiola hardly ever spoke to him.

Speaking to AS publication, Guardiola rubbished Toure’s remarks saying that he always maintained a healthy relationship with all his players.
“There’s not much to say about this matter. I talk to anyone and the doors to my office and house are always open for the players,” Guardiola said.

“The truth is that he asked [club president Joan] Laporta to leave. We even tried to convince him to stay put. I will speak to him the next time we meet.”

Meanwhile Barcelona had to settle for a slim 1-0 victory over Granada yesterday which momentarily took them to the summit of the league. Rivals Real Madrid are in action later on today with a tough home assignment against Villarreal.

Los Merengues know that anything less than a win will see their short lead at the top of the table end as fast as it started. Over In Italy, Juventus beat Fiorentina 2-1 with their sensational player Matri scoring a goal that will definitely boost the club and his confidence ahead  of their crunch match at the San Siro on Saturday against Inter Milan.
