Ernesto Valverde’s First Barcelona Training Session

Ernesto Valverde took his first Barcelona training session on Thursday in front of the media as they gear up for their US tour.

The recently appointed Nou Camp boss took a private session with 14 members of his squad on Wednesday evening and on Thursday morning put on a workout in front of the assembled media.

The first of two day’s two sessions saw 15 minutes open to the press in order for them to get a look at the new manager in action.

As well the 14 first team players who have returned to after their summer breaks, icludig star man Luis Suarez, five members of the Barca B squad were also involved in the workout: Sergi Palencia, Carles Alena, Marc Cucurella, Marlon Santos and Vitinho.

Six players who played internationals in June will not be rejoining the squad until Friday, they are Sergio Busquets, Denis Suarez, Andres Iniesta, Jordi Alba, Lucas Digne and Samuel Umtiti.

On Saturday marquee names Lionel Messi, Neymar, Arda Turan and Gerard Pique return to the Joan Gamper training facility after fulfilling sponsorship obligations with Rakuten in in Tokyo.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Andre Gomes featured at the Confederations Cup and have been given time off until the end of the US Tour in August.

Barcelona travel to the US for the International Champions Cup later this month, with the first fixture against Juventus taking place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 23.

The rest of the US tour sees Barcelona face a date with Manchester United in Washing on July 27 follow before the Catalans travel to Miami to meet rivals Real Madrid on July 30.
