Dani Alves still feels not “fully respected” at Barcelona and has hinted he will leave after the season.
The Brazil international’s contract expires this summer and he has yet to sign a new deal.
“I’ve had to put up with a lot this year and this is the reason why I’m speaking out,” Alves said in Monday’s press conference. “I feel a lack of respect and I have limit. I haven’t taken a decision yet. I have a few options that I’m considering but I will take a decision after the Champions League final.”
Alves’ importance to the team club grew with Barça unable to make any signing until 2016 due to a ban imposed by FIFA for breaching rules on the transfer of players aged under 18.
“I know the club didn’t want to renew my contract until they found out FIFA’s ruling,” Alves said. “But I have a value and I’ve worked for it.
“The club wants me to continue because my performances have improved in the past four months. But as of today the situation remains the same as that of last June. I have spoken to the club president and I have given him the figures on what I feel is fair for me to continue.”
Alves has made 44 appearances this season for the Primera Division champions, including 43 as a starter.
“It’s not a case of money, I’m just defending what is mine,” he said. “I’ve always said that I would like to remain at Barça but not at any price. I want to be valued for what I’ve done in this position, which nobody else has done.”
“I feel 200 per cent in the team but just ten per cent in the club,” he said. “In any case, my future is now and I want to experience and enjoy these two finals that we have worked so hard to reach.”
Alves could add two more titles to his collection if Barça beat Athletic Bilbao in Saturday’s Copa del Rey final at the Camp Nou and defeat Juventus in the Champions League final in Berlin on 6 June.
“I have a contract until 30 June and as a sign of respect for Barcelona, for the people that love me, I’m just thinking of those two finals,” he said. “It’s a reward to be able to return to play a Champions League final.
“I hope we can return to make history at the club. Only after the final, will I announce my decision.”
