Could Guardiola Leave Barcelona?

According to Gaizka Mendieta , there is a big possibility that Barca coach Pep Guardiola could soon be on his way out of the record breaking club. A lot of uncertainty has arisen over Guardiola’s future following his shocking denial on Tuesday that he was close to signing a new contract.

It doesn’t make any sense why Pep would want to leave Barcelona. I mean he is one of the best paid coaches in the world at an annual salary of £8.7 million, he has won 13 out of  a possible 16 titles since taking over from Frank Rijkaard in 2008 and you can’t forget the title wining machine he has developed at Barca that would be hard to replicate in any other team.

However, Mendieta believes that Guardiola wants a new challenge, thus his hesitation in signing a new deal. Speaking to Europa Press, the former Barca and Spain International was quoted as saying that a move could happen as soon as this summer.

“I believe that his cycle at Barcelona will end someday, he is the one to decide the right moment,” Mendieta said.

“I think that as a professional he is interested in new challenges. It could happen in the summer, it depends on how this season goes. Soon we could see Guardiola at another club. Perhaps because of his playing experience in Italy it will be easier to see him in Serie A, even though he knows about world football and he could triumph anywhere.”

The news comes on the back of another bad outing for Barcelona as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Valencia at the Mestalla in the first leg of the Copa Del Rey semi-final.

The Catalans had the chance to seal the win early in the second half after they were awarded a penalty forMiguel’s violation on Thiago but Messi’s weak shot was pushed away to safety.

Barca still have the advantage heading into the return leg at the Nou Camp in 2 weeks time having scored an away goal that will definitely be vital for their progression to the finals.

So it looks like this will be another title in the bag for Guardiola, probably the only one this season as Madrid seem to be walking away with the  La Liga title and defending the Champions League title is a task easier said than done.
