Barcelona have stepped up their interest in signing talented Real Betis midfielder Fabian Ruiz as the summer transfer window draws ever closer.
With the experienced Andres Iniesta leaving the club this summer, Barcelona are on the lookout for a talented youngster to replace the iconic midfielder, and Ruiz has emerged as the prime candidate to fill the vacancy, according toMundo Deportivo.
The 22-year-old has impressed with his composed performances for Betis this campaign and has provided six assists in 30 La Liga games.
Ruiz, a Spain U21 international, has been monitored by Barcelona for some time but a deal to bring him to the Nou Camp could now finally come to fruition.
Barcelona could take advantage of the fact that Ruiz has a release clause of €30 million (£26.2million), although the starlet’s current contract at Betis runs until the summer of 2023.
Last weekend Ruiz was in action as Betis drew 0-0 away to Atletico Madrid and he was assessed by Barcelona scouts during that fixture.
Although they are on track to win the La Liga title – there is a chance that they can achieve that aim this weekend – Barcelona are eager to inject their squad with more quality this summer as they look to last the distance in the Champions League next season having been eliminated at the quarter-finals stage this campaign.
Ruiz, who benefited from an impressive loan spell at Elche last season, could well be the first arrival at Barcelona this summer.
