Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is ready to sit down for clear-the-air talks with Gerard Pique after the defender claimed the club’s board are to blame for negative articles in Catalan media.
After the weekend win away at Getafe, Pique appeared too intimate that members of the club board were sabotaging players by providing negative insight to local media.
According to the Evening Standard, Pique will now meet Bartomeu in a bid to alleviate tension between the board and the dressing room.
‘We have to be together. Not just the players, but the fans and the board,’ Pique told media after the Getafe win. ‘When someone doesn’t want to get angry, there are no fights.
‘We know the club, we know the newspapers that have close ties with the club. We know who writes the articles, even if they are signed by someone else.’
One article which caused much of Pique’s grievances came in Mundo Deportivo with a number of anecdotes from the dressing room that only insiders would have been in the knowledge of.
Information was particularly specific about player power and treatment towards managers and Pique has not hidden who he believes is behind the leaks to the media.
Bartomeu is now seeking clear-the-air talks with the star defender ahead of the club’s Champions League meeting with Inter Milan on Wednesday.
Ernesto Valverde’s side drew 0-0 away to Borussia Dortmund in the first round of matches after Marco Reus had his penalty saved by Barca shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
