Atletico Madrid are reported to be still interested in striker Mauro Icardi, despite Inter slapping a €45m price-tag on the Argentine.
This is certainly not the first time that Atleti and specifically Coach Diego Simeone have been linked with a swoop for Icardi.
While the takeover by Suning Commerce Group changes the financial outlook for Inter, turning down a €45m offer for Icardi is not something that teams do without thinking it through.
That would be a huge profit on the 23-year-old striker, considering Inter only paid €13m for him in 2013. But Icardi’s goal conversion rate is already amongst the best in Europe and the expectations is that the Inter captain is only going to improve over the next 3-4 years.
If there is an official bid from Atletico, this will be the first big test of the Suning Commerce Group. Will they take the profit and run or are they really in this for the long run, in which case they would reject the Spanish sides advances?
