Barcelona have unveiled their new signing Arthur from Brazilian club Gremio on Monday. The midfielder, who cost €30 million, signed a six-year contract with a buy-out clause of €400m.
Arthur arrived in the Spanish City on Monday and gave his first interview with Barca TV where he said:
‘I’m very happy. This is a dream I’ve had since I was little.’
‘I always dreamed of putting on the FC Barcelona jersey. Today is a great day.
‘This is a championship calibre club and that is my objective, to win as many titles as possible because I know this badge deserves it.
‘Me and my new team-mates will be going for titles.
‘This is every player’s dream.
‘To be part of the greatest team in the world, with the best players in the world, it makes me feel privileged.
‘I can only feel joy at what it all represents.’
Arthur, who will join compatriot Philippe Coutinho in the Barcelona squad has yet to make a full senior appearance for the national team.
However, he has come through the Brazilian junior teams and starred in a Gremio team which won both the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Libertadores.
Barcelona have quietly been getting younger, as they look for the next generation of players to replace Xavi, Iniesta, Pique, Busquets, Suarez and Messi. Consider that in the last 12 months Barcelona have signed Arthur (21), Coutinho (26), Dembele (21) and Semedo (24)
