Are La Liga Goal Scoring Records Ready to Fall?

Four of the best strikers in the world are playing in La Liga and all of them are off to a great start to the season, averaging at least a goal a game this season.

David Villa tops all scorers with six goals in five games while Messi, Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo have all scored five goals.

Barcelona’s big summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had a great start to his Barca career with a goal in every game. Not since the 1950’s has Barcelona had a player start the season with goals in five consecutive league games. Messi, after missing the match against Sporting, scored against Getafe, two and two Atletico Racing.

The record for goals in a season is 38 which us shared by Zarra and Hugo Sanchez. Last season Eto’o (32 goals) and Forlan (30 goals) battled it out for top goalscorer honors. It is too early to tell if that record will be broken, but I will be shocked if it does not take more than 32 goals to win the top goalscorer award this season.
