2009 LLTO Segunda Division Awards: Intro & Best Coach

Briefly we hear at SATO would like to take you through the Segunda Division of La Liga.  We are aware that the second tier is not always as exciting as the moves that clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are making, but keep in mind that many of the stars of tomorrow are possibly playing in the secondary league today.  For example Xerez, Real Zaragoza, and Tenerife had four out of six of the best goal scorers in all of the league.  This upcoming year all four of those gentlemen will be members of the Primera Division because those were the three clubs that were promoted to the top level.

And it all works the same way on the other end.  The Segunda Division will have plenty of new faces this year as well.  Some of those faces are more well known then others and some just recently enjoyed life on the top tier.  Real Betis, Numancia, and Recreativo Huelva were the three relegated clubs.  Next year they will look to get back into the top league in Spain.

But with the season coming up very shortly let’s go over some of the highlights from the Segunda Division last season.

Without further delay let’s begin the awards ceremony.

Coach of the Year

Marcelino of Real Zaragoza deserves to be labeled Segunda Division’s Best Coach.  In his first year with the squad the former Racing Santander coach would steer the club back towards the promise land.  And why not?  That’s what the former player is known to do.  In his last three coaching stints the young coach has taken underdog clubs and made them serious competitors.  Look out for Marcelino and Real Zaragoza next season.
