Angel from Above

by Will Salvarinas on June 28, 2010

The self-proclaimed “special one” and the football giants of Real Madrid have done it again!

Reports have circulated throughout today’s Spanish media that the Galacticos have reached an agreement on terms for Argentinean winger Angel di Maria. The dynamic youngster had plied his trade in Portugal the past few seasons for Benfica of the nation’s top league.

His move to the Bernabeu is reportedly on a six-year deal, worth an estimated 25 million Euros. It was widely believed that a handful of teams within the English Premiership were interested in obtaining di Maria’s services, yet as he usually does, Mourinho emerged victorious yet again.

Maicon’s Agent: Move to Madrid Imminent

by Will Salvarinas on June 18, 2010

Just days after Maicon displayed his superb talnet for the world to see in Brazil’s 2-1 victory over North Korea, the star defender is apparently on the verge of switching club teams.

The world-class right-back had an amazing campaign under Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan squad. Together the two captured the Italian Serie A title and the Champions League crown. Maicon is known to be an avid fan of Mourinho and upon his departure, expressed great desire to reunite with him at some point in his career.

Mourinho Goes Shopping

by Will Salvarinas on June 9, 2010

In wake of Real Madrid hiring the bombastic Jose Mourinho to replace Manuel Pellegrini as the new head coach of the side, rumors have recently run rampant about what the club will do in the off-season.

Real Madrid, never a team to go about things quietly, made quite the splash prior to the 2009/2010 campaign, signing world-class talents in Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo. Although the transactions didn’t produce the desired results, they are exceptional players surrounded by a tantalizing group of stars. The Galácticos are certainly moving in the right direction.  Frankly it would be hard not to with their millions of dollars in resources, yet it remains absurd that a team this talented will look to further improve to their roster this summer.

La Liga Week Three Preview

by David Wilson on September 18, 2008

The city of Seville takes centre-stage for the third week of La Liga action as local rivals Real Betis and Sevilla clash at the Estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera. Sevilla did the double over their neighbours last season, winning 3-0 at home and 2-0 away, but Betis have splashed out big money this summer and will be desperate to put one over their old enemies.

To do that though, Betis will need to improve on a disappointing run of results that has left them without a win since mid-April and with just one point from their opening two games against Recreativo Huelva and Getafe this season.

Real Madrid Place Bid For David Villa

by David Wilson on August 25, 2008

After unsuccessfully trying to get Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, Real Madrid have moved closer to home with the news that they have offered over 45 million euros for Valencia striker David Villa, the top scorer at Euro 2008 which was won by Spain.

The amount which the club, which is looking for a possible replacement for Brazilian striker Robinho who has said he wants to join Chelsea, are willing to pay for the 26-year-old varies between 47 and 48 million euros, the web sites of sports dailies Marca and AS reported.

Real Madrid claim Supercup

by David Wilson on August 25, 2008

A nine-man Real Madrid rallied to beat Valencia 4-2 and lift the Spanish Supercup 6-5 on aggregate on Sunday. Ruud van Nistelrooy, Sergio Ramos, Ruben De La Red and Gonzalo Higuain scored for Madrid, which had midfielder Rafael van der Vaart ejected in the 39th minute and striker Ruud van Nistelrooy in the 73rd.

Valencia’s David Silva opened the scoring, with Fernando Morientes completing a late goal rush at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

It was the eighth time Madrid won the trophy — contested annually by the league champion and Copa del Rey winner — and the first since 2003.

La Liga Preview

by David Wilson on August 8, 2008

Real Madrid‘s second successive La Liga title came with the minimum of fuss, and although there was a slight stumble towards the end of the season, an eight point gap over Villarreal, coupled with a +48 goal difference, underlined their undoubted superiority.

Bearing this in mind, coach Bernd Schuster has been relatively quiet in the transfer market, with the recent signing of Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart the most significant piece of transfer activity in or out of the Bernabeu.
