When Diego Simeone redid his contract with Atletico Madrid late last year, Tempo De Juego had confirmed recently that El Cholo had a €50 million clause put into his new deal.
The same contract saw him get a pay rise but have his stay at the Calderon shortened by two years. Now, the former Inter and Lazio player can leave as of June 2018.
But according to Calciomercato.com, that is no longer the case and that Simeone will be allowed to leave the Vicente Calderon for nothing this summer!
One reason is that there is a feeling that the Simeone era is coming to an end in Madrid. The club had to talk him into returning this season after the disappointment of losing in the Champions League Final again. Atletico’s form has been inconsistent this season with some wondering if the players have started to tune out the Argentinean?
‘Another reason is that Atletico Madrid will begin a new era next season when they move into their new stadium and why not move into the stadium with a new manager and maybe some new players, instead of seeing Simeone leaving after one more year?
If he does leave Atletico Madrid this summer, Diego Simeone will have more than a few clubs interested in him.
Inter fans are dreaming of seeing Simeone appointed for over a year now, but could Juventus swoop in and steal Simeone, if Allegri leaves as expected at the end of the season?
Where do you expect Diego Simeone to coach next season?
