Denis Suárez Returns To The Camp Nou

denis-suarezYou can take another €3.25m off Barcelona’s transfer kitty after the club announced that it had re-signed midfielder Denis Suárez, after exercising their re-purchase option and paying Villarreal €3.25 million.

Suarez has signed a four year deal with an option for a fifth, depending on the number of games played in his fourth season.

The 22 year old midfielder left Barcelona for Sevilla at the end of the 2013/14 season, where he won the Europa League. He then moved to Villarreal, but his contract maintained Barcelona’s buy-back clause.

He’s had a fine season at Villarreal where he was a key player in the side. He played in 48 games, starting 36. He scored five goals and assisted for 11.

Suarez is over the moon with his return to Barcelona and has vowed to give his all to succeed at “the best team in the world”.

“I am very happy to return to the best team in the world.

“Ever since I left, I have been wanting to return, and now my dream has come true.

“My time at Sevilla and Villarreal has helped me mature as a player and as a person. Now I am ready to make the jump.

“I’ll give everything I have to succeed at Barca. It’s only a good thing that there is a lot of competition for places.”

Despite his best performances coming on the left, Luis Enrique apparently sees him as an interior in Barcelona’s three man midfield. That’s to say, where Iniesta normally plays. The Barça coach hopes that the 22-year-old absorbs the necessary tactical concepts – with and without the ball – to fill an interior role at the club. If that proves the case, Lucho is certain that the player will cement his place as a midfielder.

If, in the end, Barça don’t sign another forward, though, Denis will be the backup to the MSN. Neymar’s role on the left would be the most ideal position for him, as it was with Pedro, although he could also play on the right wing, where Arda Turan is also an option. Munir would be the alternative to Luis Suarez.
