Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo expected to be out of action until after the international break due to the knee injury he suffered during the Euros. That means Ronaldo will miss the European Super Cup against Europa League winners Sevilla on August 9as well as the opening couple of rounds of the new La Liga season.
Ronaldo is not the only star expected to miss the European Super Cup. Wales international Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are aslo likely to miss European Super Cup along with Toni Kroos and Pepe.
Bale and Kroos were originally been expected to return to the club and begin their pre-season on July 31. But the club has given them both an extended break until the 6 August in an attempt to get them well rested before the start of the news season.
With Portugal playing in the Euros final Ronaldo and Pepe are not due back from their summer break until the 10th of August, the day AFTER the Super Cup match.
It is not vacation that could keep Benzema out of the Super Cup match but injury. The French international has been struggling with a hip problem all pre-season that will likely cause him to miss the Sevilla match.
Benzema’s injury has been a frustration to Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane as he has been unable to try out a new 4-4-2 formation during the club’s uSA tour as Benzema has not been fit enough to partner Álvaro Morata up-front in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo.
